Dr. Kimura and Mr. Kumon
Established in 1984 by
Dr.
Dan Kimura, a professor at Washington University,
the
Ladue Kumon center was the first
Kumon Center in the Midwest. Dr. Kimura learned about the
Kumon Method in his hometown Moriguchi, in the suburb of Osaka,
Japan, where Mr. Tohru Kumon started the Method in 1955. In

Conference, Dr. Kimura describes his first encounter with
the Kumon Method.

Both Mr. Kumon and Dr. Kimura graduated from Osaka University.
Dr. and Mrs. Kimura introduced the Kumon Method to St.
Louis in 1984 for their two sons, 5th and 6th graders at
the time, to learn school math.
